The official promotional material and match listing for WWWE's Best of Starrcade DVD set is as follows:
For longtime fans of professional wrestling, the end of the year meant one of the biggest events of the year—Starrcade. Rivalries that had festered for months would be settled once and for all. Contenders that had long dreamed of their big break would finally get their title shots. It was an annual event that even predated WrestleMania by two years. Now, for the first time, fans can see the great NWA and WCW battles on DVD with The Best of Starrcade.

Thoughts:

A lot of repeat matches from a lot of different sets (Ultimate Flair Collection, Road Warriors, Dusty, Hogan anthology) but with the exception of Battle Bowl, Hogan-Sting, Hogan-Piper, and Goldberg-Nash, the rest is pretty solid. For a first release it could have been a lot worse; I just hope it sells really well so a second set is made.

I'm not sure what would have been noteworthy to have included from Starcade 90. Maybe Steiners vs Saito and Muta in the Pat O'Connor tag tournament, Luger vs. Hanson in a Strap Match or Doom vs. Anderson and Windham in a Street Fight but the rest? Zenk-Eaton, Wallstreet-Taylor, Skyscrapers SQUASH, the other tournament matches that weren't too memorable.. not a stellar line up. And the less we see of anything related to Sting's feud with the Black Scorpion the better.

I think I would've liked to have seen this split up. Maybe one an NWA Starrcade set, and one a WCW Starrcade set.

Something about this match listing just leaves a bad taste in my mouth, and I can't place what it is. There are some amazing matches, but there are some that just leave me cold.

I felt the same way at first but as pointed out, I'm just glad we've finally gotten it at all.

What will be most interesting to me is how they plan on advertising it, if they try at all. Call me a conspiracy nut but would it surprise anyone if Vince made sure this failed just so he could once again point out how crappy WCW was?
